Ansche Chesed CSA, Community Supported Agriculture, CSA, Garden of Eve Farm

AnscheChesedCSA_logoCommunity-Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a mutually beneficial partnership in which urban consumers receive fresh, organic vegetables while sustaining the livelihoods and stewardship of regional farmers. In a CSA, the farmer pre-sells shares; the money goes to the cost of growing, distributing, and paying the farmer a living wage.

Members of the Ansche Chesed CSA have the option of purchasing vegetable, fruit, egg and fresh flower shares from Garden of Eve — a certified organic farm on the east end of Long Island.  To further education and awareness of food issues, we also organize events and workshops for members throughout the season.

Garden of Eve has been partnering with the Ansche Chesed Synagogue for over 10 years to distribute local produce and build community in the Upper West Side. We were Garden of Eve’s first CSA and the very first Hazon-sponsored CSA in the country!

2019 Sign-Ups are OPEN!

Note that as we don’t have the option for boxes,
the customizable box is not an option for Ansche Chesed CSA members.
Please take a moment to learn about Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
and to look at our farmer’s site to get info about the farm.

Helpful Tips:
  • Swap Box: If there is a vegetable or fruit you just don’t want, drop it in the swap box and take something you would rather have. Do not take an extra share of something from the tables!
  • Pick up hours are 5:30-7:30 PM at Ansche Chesed. Please do not come early unless you are a volunteer. We need the time to set up signs and supplies. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Don’t forget to bring BAGS! We at Ansche Chesed CSA love our planet, and know you do too.

    Latest News from the Farm

This week, Eve and Chris write:

Welcome to a new CSA season! We genuinely THANK YOU for SUPPORTING OUR FARM. We would not exist without you!

“Hello” to new members, and “Welcome back!” to those whose names we have grown to know and love as we see your signups come in year after year.

We do wish we could get to know each and every one of you personally, but with the distance between many of you and the farm, this is tough. However, remember that you are always welcome to visit the farm, our on-farm market and “front desk” is open daily through Halloween, 9am-6 pm. If you find yourself in the area, please stop by, you can get a 10% discount on any purchases, a free Season Pass for our Fun Fields (includes admission to U-pick berries and veggies all season), and see the farm for yourself!

FACEBOOK: A GREAT PLACE TO POST Q & GET A

To facilitate member-member mentoring, we created a facebook group called “ Garden of Eve Organic Farm CSA Members” and you can request to join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/GardenofEveOrganicCSA/Especially if you are a new member and new to the CSA, it will be a big help to you, you can post pictures of your items you want help with and get a quick response from other members. There have already been some fun exchanges on there over the winter!

    PICK UP DETAILS

Everyone should have already received other emails, with detailed pick up instructions for your location. We won’t repeat that info here!

If you find that something is missing from your share, email is the best way to let us know – please include your first and last name, and pick up location. In most cases we will issue a credit to your account, that you can use on webstore extras or to replace the item in a future week.

Try to remember that not only do we have to grow the vegetables, we also have to pick them, wash them, count them, pack them, and even drive the truck all over LI and into NYC. And understand this software that puts the shares together! In a world of increasing specialization, doing all this ourselves is a great challenge. However we hope this won’t happen often and each year we work to improve our systems!

We have a lot of great events planned for the summer season, including farm tours, strawberry picking for the next few weeks, and more. You can check it all out and register at http://www.gardenofevefarm.com/UpcomingEvents.htm

    Thanks for supporting our farm!

Chris, Eve, and the Farm Crew
