Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a mutually beneficial partnership in which urban consumers receive fresh, organic vegetables while sustaining the livelihoods and stewardship of regional farmers. In a CSA, the farmer pre-sells shares; the money goes to the cost of growing, distributing, and paying the farmer a living wage.
Members of the Ansche Chesed CSA have the option of purchasing vegetable, fruit, egg and fresh flower shares from Garden of Eve — a certified organic farm on the east end of Long Island. To further education and awareness of food issues, we also organize events and workshops for members throughout the season.
Garden of Eve has been partnering with the Ansche Chesed Synagogue for over 10 years to distribute local produce and build community in the Upper West Side. We were Garden of Eve’s first CSA and the very first Hazon-sponsored CSA in the country!

Latest News from the Farm
Our famous cherry tomatoes are in the share this week! They are sooooo tasty. We grow a rainbow of colors and they are like candy! We’re happy with the crop, but can you imagine how long it takes to pick all those tiny tomatoes? It can be hard to balance all the things that need to be done in the field, from harvesting to taking care of crops for your fall shares. These will be great with all the fresh basil we’ve been giving you!
At the farm, we’re enjoying having people out for sunflower picking – this is a great time to come visit. It’s amazing for us, living on a farm, to see all the kids and adults so incredulous, that they can pick something on their own… when I tell them they can pick any flowers they want… in a sea of flowers… they are just amazed. It’s just a basic human instinct and urge to harvest… it seems sort of sad that for many people, this is something they don’t have at all in their lives, kids who’ve never picked a flower or a vegetable. We’re happy to be able to be the ones who give them that experience!
